1-Where you from?
San Francisco.
2-How long have you been working together and who are the members
of the band?
Geoffrey and I started the band in 2008. Over time we’ve had a
number of configurations, sometimes as a trio or quintet, but now we’re playing
as a 4-piece: Geoffrey Scott on guitar and vocals, me on keys and vocals, Scott
Putnam on drums, and Greg Dubrow on Bass.
3-What are your influences?
We have all been deeply affected by bands like Stereolab, The
Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk, The Smiths, Luna, REM, Low, and the Cure. But
we’re as equally influenced by Bach’s cello suites or the Bee Gees.
4-Could you describe the music project ?
Our last two records were produced by Monte Vallier with some
additional recording done on our own. We decided to approach this one very
differently. We wanted this album to be more experimental than the last, so we
decided to see what would happen if we took on even more of the tracking
ourselves. We worked with a few different engineers in addition to Monte (David
Voigt and Daniel Scheiman) and we recorded it on both coasts. The core band is
in San Francisco and then a few dear friends and great musicians from New York
contributed parts to the album as well. Once we got all the parts, Geoffrey
went away with the music and did most of the additional production, and next
Monte will help us sound like us when we mix.
5-How this project was born ?
We started this record once we finished mixing the last one, about
a year and a half ago. We start with demos and they gradually morph into songs
along the way.
6- Do you work in the independently way ?
Yes, we’re completely independent, but thankfully we’ve had a
little help from Greenfuse and Blue Aurora when it’s come time to press vinyl.
7-In rare cases I find so elegant bands like you, which is the
main idea at the composing moment?
Geoffrey gets most of the melodies and lyrics when he’s taking
walks or riding his bike.
8-This interview, will be read by people from many countries. What
can you say about Slowness?
We’re always happy when people from different parts of the world
write to us and tell us they’ve bought our record and like our music. And we’re
happy that we’re finally going to get out of America and tour Europe in June.
Perhaps we’ll meet some of the people who’ve written to us.
9-Which song should I get to start to hear Slowness? Why?
If I was just recommending to a friend, I would say start with
Slowboat because it’s my personal favorite.
